Paccar Parts is the largest truck parts provider in the US
I got hired as UX/UI Designer to update their Online Parts Counter e-commerce experience through a Chicago Agency called Gorilla.
My role was to help revamp an e-Commerce platform for their main 3 brands: TRP, Peterbilt, and Kenworth.
When I joined the team I got access to the sprint plan spreadsheet, the early Design System draft, and Information Architecture, and I was able to understand the design expectations. I use my usual stack of tools to manage this project and provide weekly status to the different stakeholders.
I used Sketch and Invision to create quick lo-fi wireframes and UI prototypes, I also used Adobe Illustrator to create complementary assets. The team uses Google Drive and Jira to manage the production work.
Over the years Paccar Parts launch what they called Online Parts Counter; a do-to-buy website for truck parts in the US. Their executive team wanted to consolidate the online experience by optimizing their main 3 branches under the same commerce structure.
The Gorilla Group Tech Team has plenty of experience in Magento framework and set up the production to accomplish the implementation in a 24-week project.
Since the team was working with Magento's Luma Theme, my first step was to be familiarized with the capabilities of the framework and I used the IA to work with the Creative Team to generate the Design System; later I worked with the Low-Fidelity wireframes to design the final UI and get approval from the stakeholders before handoff the mockups to the development team.
I did research on e-Commerce references but also since the project is not "visually" engaging I did some mood boards to understand their preferences, visual communication treatment, and social media presence. Combining all the information to create the new UI.
From sprint planning to execution
Heuristic analysis to identify opportunities to improve
Even when the Creative Team already designed low-fidelity wireframes and we were using a Magento theme I got to suggest improvements in the UI phase
Also with the Design System now we needed to consider not only 1 brand but 4 total; we had some similar shades of blue, but also we needed to balance the palette to apply blue, red, and black. I did create new iconography as part of the revamped experience.
I designed the homepage login, profile, cart, check out, saved orders, OPC landing, and the CMS template
I designed a storyboard to help promote the launch of the experience
Because of the good results of my collaboration, the Gorilla team asked me to join again to collaborate on additional projects; due to previous freelance engagements I couldn't join but I believe that's a good statement of my professional approach.
