RM Sotheby's is one of the largest auction houses in the world
I got hired as UX/UI Designer to update their car branch online experience to reflect the status and scale of their business.
My role includes mobile-first experience for a responsive website using their low-fidelity wireframes and design style guide.
The CEO of Stateside - a Los Angeles-based Digital Agency hired me to collaborate with the redesign; they needed to re-build a platform to support the high-quality content the RM Sotheby's editorial team creates for each auction. I use my usual stack of tools to manage this project and provide weekly status to the different stakeholders.
I used Sketch, and Invision to create quick lo-fi wireframes and prototypes, I also used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create complementary assets. The team uses Google Drive and Asana to manage the production work.
As part of the design process, I did research and interviews with RM Sotheby's stakeholders; and for best practices, I used references from the e-commerce, entertainment industry, and the main Sotheby's branch online experience. Also, I frequently used quick lo-fi wireframes while discussing with the production team in the early stages of the project.
Early on, I identified that Stateside's role was to redesign the car auction website experience to enhance 3 main stakeholders; on one side we had customers (Buyers) who will register to bid to purchase a car, and these customers can also contact RM Sotheby's car specialist to book an appointment and consign their own cars to sell at any specific auction (Sellers).
On another hand, the online experience needed to consider custom Car Specialist's profiles, and Press access to their auctions. This obviously, is a content-heavy website with a CMS to update content in real-time.
From printed catalogs to an online experience
I supported the business by creating a mobile-first experience
This was my first time working with Umbraco CMS and Azure Cloud Storage
The RM Sotheby's team was able to seamlessly publish content in real-time and their customers (Buyers and Sellers) experienced an online car auction in a mobile-friendly way.
One of the great challenges as a designer is to listen to and influence different stakeholders
When I started this project I realized that it was going to be a project where I needed to be patient to accomplish the design goals but also I needed to be efficient and learn quickly because the technology was already discussed and the initial requirements were defined too.
